Paper Magic

Paper Magic Book Cover Illustration. IFWG Publishing Australia kindly allowed me to create the cover illustration for my junior novel, Paper Magic. The photograph is of, Bethany, a student at the school where I work. She modeled for the cover image and the book's internal illustrations. Each of the silhouette images down the sides of the front cover all make an appearance somewhere in the story.

SQ Mag - May Issue - 2015 (Special Edition - Dark Legends of a New Age)

SQ Mag began as a seasonal print magazine, SQ Magazine - printing three editions which we were very proud of. We chose to cease the line in 2012 when we realised that the business model was outdated, and converted to what we have now, which is a bi-monthly ezine, where the best fiction is published in the following year (the Star Quake anthology series). SQ Mag’s purpose is to:
- publish five or more works of speculative fiction in each edition, showcasing new talent among seasoned
- publish representative fiction from each of the traditionally understood genres of speculative fiction in each edition (horror, science fiction, and fantasy)
- publish fiction in the English idiom of the submitted manuscript (UK, US, Australian, South African, New Zealand, Canadian, etc)
- publish a special edition in May each year, covering a theme or concept
- publish serial fiction in all editions, with a possible exception in hefty editions, and the special editions
- publish work by female writers, and other groups not well represented in the writing industry (by way of sexual orientation, race and creed)
The Pouakai - by David Sperry (Cover Illustration)

The Pouakai by David Sperry is a military science fiction adventure novel set in the waters off Hawaii. It was released by IFWG Publishing in 2014.

The Charms anthology is a three volume collection of children's stories gathered and compiled and edited by the respected children's author, Sally Odgers. Teddy and Karl

I've been commissioned by IFWG Publishers to illustrate a series of children's bed time stories written by Australian author Rolf Svensen. IFWG are compiling the stories into a single hardback edition for publication in late 2013. The stories are right up my alley. They feature a great little character called Karl, a teddy bear, a nature fairy and a whole bunch of Australian animals.
It has taken a little while to get the style and character of Karl sorted out but I thing we have nailed it.
This is a little sneak peak.

SQ Mag Digital Launch

Commissioned Illustration for SQ Mag.
The brief for this illustration was to capture a key scene from the serial sci-fi novella, 'Avoiding the Searchers' by MF Burbaugh, which will feature in all five of the issues of the magazine in 2012. The new format magazine will launch on the 1st of March with five electronic issues and a best of print anthology for the year instead of the two print issues from past years. The illustration will feature alongside the novella in all five issues.
After receiving the illustration, I was requested to submit an illustration for consideration as the cover image for the magazines May Issue. The magazine prints science fiction, fantasy and horror stories. After looking at some back issues of the magazine I thought there were plenty of sci-fi and fantasy genre covers so I decided to do an atmospheric horror illustration. It has been accepted too.

'Olivia Stone and the Trouble With Trixies' Illustrations

This illustration is of the lead up to the climax scene in the book. Olivia is standing on the west tower of the St. Giles Old Priory School, waiting for the leader of the trixies to come after her. She has a plan that might just get her out of the situation alive.
I'm working on a few illustrations from the book, mainly character sketches that I can refer to during the editing process. Plus, I like to see the characters I'm writing about.

Literature For Kids Cover Illustration

This is the cover illustration for the February 2011 issue of the new on-line children's magazine 'Literature For Kids'. The brief for the cover illustration was that the issue's theme was love and friendship. The magazine editor, Linda Jo Martin, suggested that the cover should have some children and perhaps a heart. I decided to let the children make the heart.

Polar Boy teacher resource package illustrations
These are six of the illustrations I did for the Teacher Resource Pack for Sandy Fussell's CBCA nominated book, Polar Boy. There are seventeen pictures in total for a trivia game relating to the book. Each time a question is answered correctly, another block is added to the igloo.
